Top tips for winter skincare

As the seasons change so to the needs of our skin. Here are some ways to support your skin through the cooler months, keeping you nourished and glowing!

Boost your Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's)

A good quality Fish Oil supplement is an integral part of maintaining great overall skin health. Choosing a supplement that contains Omega 3, 6 & 9 will help create healthy cell membranes and in turn a healthy skin barrier. Think of this like boosting your skin health from the inside out (although we recommend you chat to your doctor or practitioner before introducing new supplements). Another way to up your intake of EFA's is to enjoy foods that are Omega rich such as cold water fatty fish (salmon, tuna & sardines), flaxseeds, chia seeds and walnuts.

Change up your products

Through the cooler months our skin needs extra love. Think about swapping your cleanser to something more hydrating such as a milk or an oil. Adding in a hydrating mist along with a nourishing face oil can help boost both the water and oil content in your skin to keep your skin supple.

Don't forget to hydrate

As the temperature drops it can be more difficult to keep up our water intake. Aim for 2L of water per day and choose herbal tea over coffee to keep you warm and toasty.

Turn down the water temperature, I know it can be hard but washing your body or face in water that is too hot can strip the skin of its natural oils (a big no no). So keep the water temp warm not scalding.

Treat yourself to a mask, a beautiful way to practice self care while staying warm at home. Look for hydrating or cream based mask options to nourish your skin and hair. Some of my favourites are Rose Recovery Masque and the Mamako Hair Mask (this one is available from the girls at Cheveux). If you are using a clay based facial mask you may need to add some extra hydration by spritzing over the top with a hydrating mist or even mixing a few drops of nourishing oil prior to applying. Remember in winter the key is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise.

And just in case you are wondering……yes you still need to use your SPF through winter!
